Transfer of Credits

Policy for Granting Credit
for Prior Post-Secondary Education, Military Training, and/or Industry Recognized Certification
Policy No. 29

Course credit may be awarded to applicants who have:

  • satisfactorily (earned a grade of A,B,C, or P) completed courses at the college level equivalent to those required for graduation from a program or degree at Interface College (from an accredited, post-secondary institution, whose accrediting agency is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education), or;

  • obtained industry standardized certification within the last two years (i.e. MOS) acceptable to the school, or;

  • satisfactorily completed non-traditional courses or training, for example, apprenticeship, workplace training, or training while serving in the U. S. Armed forces equivalent to those required for graduation from a program or degree at Interface College.

The process to follow when applying for credit for prior Post-Secondary
Education and/or Industry Recognized Certifications is as follows:

  1. Provide official transcripts for prior post-secondary education, official certification of Industry Recognized certifications, and/or official evidence of apprenticeship, workplace training or military training to the Registrar at least 45 days prior to the start of the training program in which you are wishing to enroll.

  2. The Registrar will evaluate the prior education and/or certification within 14 days of receipt and provide a written response of the academic credits to be granted.

The following conditions apply:

  1. Such credit is determined upon evaluation of official transcripts/certificates and acceptance is at the discretion of the Registrar.
    • Appeals – Prospective students may appeal the Registrar's decision to deny credit by submitting a written appeal to the President at least 21 days prior to the beginning of the student's training.  The decision of the school President is final.

  2. Previous credits from a "semester" school are accepted at full value.  Credits transferred from a "quarter" school are accepted at 2/3 value.  Prior education from clock hour programs will be converted to semester credits on the basis of one credit equaling 15 hours of classroom or 30 hours of lab or a combination of both.

  3. The maximum credit for prior post-secondary education from another institution and/or industry recognized certifications that can be accepted at Interface is 50% of those credits required for graduation from the training program.

  4. The credits earned at Interface College must be the last credits applied to the training program and these credits must constitute at least 25% of the credits required for graduation.
    • Students enrolled in a Degree program will not be awarded a diploma should they be terminated, withdraw or fail.

  5. Upon approval of course exemption, full tuition credit will be given for the academic credits that are accepted for transfer and the hours/credits of the student's training program will be reduced.
    • Note:  In many instances, a student's financial aid/funding may be affected by the acceptance of prior credits and/or Industry recognized certifications.

  6. Credits accepted will show as a Passing (“P”) grade, and will not be calculated in the student's CGPA earned at Interface.

  7. There is no fee associated with the evaluation of transcripts/certificates or the granting of academic and tuition credit.
