The objective of this four semester program is to prepare students for entry level positions in health care office settings - such as: medical office assistant, receptionist, medical coding specialist, medical insurance and reimbursement specialist, and other support positions in medical offices, hospitals and other health care organizations.
This program also prepares graduates to take certification exams offered by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) for the National Certification for Medical Office Assistants (NCMOA) and the National Certification for Insurance and Coding Specialist (NCICS); and the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) examination conducted by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Important note: The CCA certification is a more widely accepted and recognized than either of the NCMOA or NCICS certifications and students should be aware of this. The school views the NCMOA and NCICS certifications as stepping stones towards the more prestigious CCA certification and encourages students to strive for the CCA certification.
